Search Databases Aligned to Your Research Interests

In order to enable our members to search databases that align to their specific research interests, we have developed project searches.

If you have a specialist interest in either the 10 Million Names, Great Migration Study or Colonial New England projects, please visit the search pages below to search all databases related to these projects.

Ten Million Names

Ten Million Names focuses on databases and collections that document people of African descent who were enslaved in what became the United States. It places special emphasis on collections related to enslavement, the slave trade, free and freed African-descended people, and their communities. The project’s search tool was curated with these priorities, but also includes datasets with large numbers of African-descended individuals where race is recorded. While these additional datasets are included in the search tool, they do not display the Ten Million Names logo, as they also contain records of individuals outside the project's primary focus.

10 Million Names

Colonial New England

The Colonial New England project search is dedicated to exploring databases and collections that document individuals who lived in New England before 1800, specifically in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. While the search tool is designed with this focus in mind, it also includes datasets containing records that begin in the Colonial period but extend slightly beyond 1800. These additional datasets are part of the search tool but do not feature the Colonial New England logo, as they also cover individuals outside the project's main scope.

Great Migration Study

The Great Migration Study Project is a comprehensive genealogical and biographical accounts of the twenty thousand English men, women, and children who settled in New England between 1620 and 1640. The project’s published works, containing thousands of sketches, are necessary resources for any genealogist, historian, or descendant with early New England interests and connections. Directed by Robert Charles Anderson, FASG.
