Robert Battle, FASG

Editor of the Register

Robert Battle, though a native of Pennsylvania, has lived in Tacoma, Washington, for most of his life. He was born into a family of educators on his father’s side and farmers on his mother’s side, though his father and maternal grandfather were both Presbyterian ministers.

Robert’s interest in genealogy began as a freshman in high school, and he soon came to appreciate the value of high-quality, peer-reviewed genealogical scholarship. After profiting from a great number of articles from such journals as The American Genealogist, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, The Genealogist, and especially The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, he felt the need to give back by submitting an article or two of his own, followed by several dozen more in the years since then. Robert was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists in 2021.

As editor of the Register, Robert looks forward to maintaining the high level of quality that has distinguished this journal throughout its long history and to helping other authors, both new and old, to make their own contributions to that effort.
