Christmas in Berlin
As winter’s chill sets in, join architectural historian and American Ancestors Curator of Special Collections Curt DiCamillo and other experts on a cultural journey to Germany during the most wonderful time of the year! When the Berlin Wall came down over 30 years ago a new European era began, and no place better captures the energy and creativity of post-Cold War Europe than Berlin, the most vibrant city on the continent.
Our custom-designed exploration will uncover some of the hidden treasures of this great capital and reconsider its architectural and artistic heritage while showcasing old and new masterpieces. Included will be visits to Berlin’s iconic museums—from the classic venues of Museum Island to Mies van der Rohe’s sleek Neue Nationalgalerie to the controversial new Humboldt Forum.
A special feature will be discovering Berlin’s finest Christmas markets. A beloved German tradition since the Middle Ages, these cheerful markets enliven the metropolis every December with food, drink, holiday music, and lots of Christmas gift buying opportunities! Other highlights will include a day trip to Potsdam to experience the garden city’s magnificent array of historic villas and palaces decked out in holiday splendor.
Our base will be the luxurious Hotel de Rome, located in the heart of the city on the historic Bebelplatz. Built in 1889 as the grand headquarters of the Dresdner Bank, the hotel is renowned for its sublime Italian cuisine and its spa, located in the bank’s underground vault. It is the only hotel in Berlin to be awarded five stars by the Forbes Travel Guide in 2022 and was named “The Best Berlin Hotel for Luxury and Location for 2022” by Conde Nast Traveller.
