More About the Workshop

A key focus of the workshop is to empower educators to use genealogy as a lens to teach inclusive history. Each educator will receive primary sources and case studies of historical figures who have connections to the history of the U.S. Virgin Islands and beyond.

Educators from St. Croix can join in person or via Zoom (Note: We encourage you to join in person. Each participant will receive a $500 stipend that can be used to cover travel costs.)

Participants

  • Classroom teachers
  • Informal educators who work in community-based settings (youth groups, camps, after-school programs, museums, home schools, etc.)
  • Pre-service teachers (student teachers or university students enrolled in a teacher preparation program)

Learn How to Implement Inquiry-Based Lesson Plans

The Family History Curriculum has everything you need to support students as they plan and carry out research, analyze and evaluate genealogical sources, and draw conclusions supported by evidence. The lesson plan also includes access to primary sources and case studies, using historical figures from the U.S. Virgin Islands as examples.
